This is Patricia's story...

Jenny, Marcus and Patricia By the time Patricia reached five years old, she had been removed from six foster family placements on account of her “difficult” behavior. Foster parents reported that Patricia was perpetually angry, defiant and threw temper tantrums. Her tender childhood was marred by years of frequent neglect and the cycles of separation from her caregivers.

Finally, foster parents Marcus and Jenny were determined to make a difference in Patricia’s life. Desperate to provide Patricia with the counseling she needed, Marcus and Jenny sought the services of ECS’ Para Las Familias program. Therapists worked intensively with the family individually and as a group to address Patricia’s behaviors. Over the course of several months, Marcus and Jenny learned how they could provide her with firm yet consistent structure in a caring, loving environment. Patricia gradually learned to trust that their love was unconditional and that no matter what, Marcus and Jenny were not going to abandon her the way so many others had.

Just last month, Marcus and Jenny finalized their adoption of Patricia and with the help of Para Las Familias the family is looking forward to a bright future together.
