Vacation Bible School Teaches Kids to Help Others

June 26, 2008
Shoe Drawing for Head StartWith “Our Big Backyard” as their theme, children participating in this summer’s Vacation Bible School at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church (Encinitas) enjoyed signing songs, hearing bible stories and creating art projects with one another. Lesslie Keller and Alyssa Osian joined the children one morning to share with them ECS’ Head Start program.

As the children listed to a story about “Maddie,” a student who outgrew her only pair of shoes, they learned about the Head Start program. The children then colored in an ECS-emblazoned shoe, writing messages such as “You rock!” and “God loves you” to share with Head Start students.

Children were asked to bring new socks and shoes for Head Start children as part of the outreach portion of Vacation Bible School. Over 50 pairs of shoes and many new socks were donated by the students and their families.
