Earlier this summer, members of St. John’s Episcopal Church (Chula Vista) expressed interest in supporting Episcopal Community Services by creating an outreach project. After learning about ECS’ various programs, the parishioners decided to hold ongoing food drives for Emergency Assistance.
An outreach calendar outlining themes such as “Healthy Snack Sunday” was devised. Then, St. John’s wanted to make their food drives a little more interesting. So they called upon Christ Episcopal Church (Coronado) and challenged their parishioners to a food drive challenge.
Checking in every other week, the two churches compare collections. Each week’s drive seems larger than the last. Excited and motivated by the success of their efforts, both St. John’s and Christ Church have agreed to “duel” through Thanksgiving to ensure hungry families are provided with essential groceries.
